Group revokes endorsements of Franklin’s Gabrielle Hanson, Jeff Feldman after NC5 investigation

“FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WTVF) — An influential Franklin conservative group has revoked its endorsements of Gabrielle Hanson for mayor and Jeff Feldman for alderman following a series of damning NewsChannel 5 investigations.

The Westhaven Conservatives group, based in the affluent neighborhood where both candidates live, announced the decision late Friday in a pair of Facebook posts.

In Hanson’s case, the organization pointed to her association with white supremacists who appeared at a candidates’ forum supposedly to provide security for her. During a meeting of Franklin’s Board of Mayor and Alderman this week, the current Franklin alderman admitted she knew the hate group was coming to the meeting, but did not discourage it.“

“Concerns about religious indoctrination have emerged in several overwhelmingly white, Christian counties. Why?

Williamson County, Tennessee, embodies demographic stereotypes about the South: The county just south of Nashville is overwhelmingly white, Christian, and Republican. But this fall, a curious controversy emerged there. Parents and school-board members have voiced worries about alleged Islamic indoctrination in the public schools.

In seventh grade, kids study world geography and history, including a unit on “the Islamic world” up to the year 1500 A.D. “Williamson County parents and taxpayers have expressed concerns that some social-studies textbooks and supplemental materials in use in Tennessee classrooms contain a pro-Islamic/anti-Judeo- Christian bias,” one school-board member, Beth Burgos, wrote in a resolution. She questioned whether it’s right to test students on the tenets of Islam, along with the state and district’s learning standards related to religion. She also said the textbook should mention concepts like jihad and not portray Islam as a fundamentally peaceful religion. “How are our children to reconcile what they’re seeing happening in the Middle East when they’re not even exposed to the radical sects of Islam like ISIS?” she said at a working meeting in mid-October. (Burgos did not respond to multiple emails and phone calls requesting comment.)”

‘You better run’: Neo-Nazis target violent threats at journalists covering Tennessee mayoral race

Hours after Williams’ Twitter post about the neo-Nazis posted outside the candidate forum in Franklin, a Telegram channel operated by the owners of the Lewis Country Store, a kitschy Second Amendment-themed restaurant where neo-Nazis conduct mixed-martial arts training, posted an antisemitic diatribe attacking Williams and accusing him of lying. The Telegram message ended by saying that journalists “have no idea the ‘Day of the Rope’ is real… and it’s approaching quicker than they can prepare for.”

“You better run…run…run,” the message concluded.

“Day of the Rope” is a reference to a 1978 novel by white supremacist William Pierce that outlines a violent fantasy about a neo-Nazi insurgency overthrowing the U.S. government. The book has been credited with inspiring numerous violent acts of far-right violence, from the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, which killed 168 people, to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

“Day of the rope” specifically refers to an assassination campaign targeting journalists, politicians, women involved in interracial relationships and others considered to be enemies of white supremacists following a revolutionary attack.

The Franklin Police Department did not return multiple messages seeking comment for this story.”

NOTORIOUS NASHVILLE STORE HOSTS WHITE NATIONALIST FIGHT CLUBS

“White nationalist groups are using a private gym above a store in Nashville, Tennessee, to network and train for hand-to-hand combat, a Hatewatch investigation reveals.”

“The private gym is located above Lewis Country Store – a gas station, convenience store and restaurant known locally for displaying hateful anti-LBGTQ+ and misogynistic signage. A message posted May 21 on a Telegram channel run by Tennessee Active Club, a white nationalist hate group, led Hatewatch to photographs of the property on a real estate listing website. Those images were matched to a propaganda video and photographs the group posted online. The photographs and video appear to show the same gym. Brad Lewis owns the store and appears to be a cook at the restaurant, according to photographs of him making food for customers posted to Google Photos. Lewis’ store now appears to be an important hub in the local white nationalist movement.”
