Civil Rights Groups Horrified at Elon Musk’s Racist Outburst Against Black People
“Earlier this week, multi-hyphenate billionaire Elon Musk endorsed a tweet suggesting Black students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have lower IQs and shouldn’t become pilots.
“It will take an airplane crashing and killing hundreds of people for them to change this crazy policy of DIE,” he tweeted, intentionally mixing up the letters of the acronym for “diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
Civil rights groups were understandably horrified at the billionaire’s racist comments.
“The only thing anyone needs to hear from Musk about diversity in the workplace is an apology,” Marc Morial, president and CEO of the National Urban League, told NBC News, calling his statements “abhorrent and pathetic.”
In his tweets, Musk appeared to imply that HBCU students shouldn’t be allowed to become pilots. However, neither his statement nor the tweet he was responding to stand up to virtually any degree of scrutiny, from made-up average IQ numbers to wrongfully correlating high SAT scores with high IQ.”

Elon Musk has vowed to file a “thermonuclear lawsuit” against a US media watchdog that claimed adverts were appearing on X alongside antisemitic posts, as major brands including Disney and Apple fled the platform.
Watchdog group Media Matters for America said earlier this week that it had found that corporate advertisements for IBM, Apple, Oracle and Comcast’s Xfinity were being placed alongside antisemitic content on X, formerly known as Twitter.
IBM on Thursday said it had suspended all advertising after the watchdog said its adverts were placed next to content promoting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.
The advertisment exodus saga began one day before the watchdog’s intervention, when a social media user appeared to push the “great replacement” conspiracy theory on X, claiming that Jewish communities “have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them”.
That theory was among the hateful ideas referenced by the gunman who killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018, the deadliest antisemitic attack in US history.
Mr Musk replied to the post, writing on his X platform: “You have said the actual truth.”

The big picture: Musk faced backlash for endorsing an antisemitic post Wednesday, as 164 Jewish rabbis and activists upped their call to Apple, Google, Amazon and Disney to stop advertising on X, and for Apple and Google to remove it from their platforms.

UPDATED, 7:40 P.M.: After a day that saw a dozen major advertisers put any spending on X/Twitter on hold over antisemitic amplification by Elon Musk, the man himself tweeted a seemingly not-so-subtile dig at those companies.
Promoting X/Twitter’s Premium service, the social media platform owner wrote, “Premium+ also has no ads in your timeline.” Musk then followed with what he may see as a selling point – true or not – for his ad-free service. “Many of the largest advertisers are the greatest oppressors of your right to free speech,” he wrote – as you can see below:

You blamed the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for antisemitism on Twitter because, wait for it, they complained about antisemitism on Twitter.
Your posts taking issue with their stance included amplifying views that called the ADL “pro-Hitler.” You then blamed the nearly two-thirds fall in Twitter ad revenues “primarily” on the ADL, and threatened to sue them for “defamation.”
Go for it, Elon. The process of discovery about you, your past, your associations, and the real causes of gutting of the value of your company would be priceless.”
